Ruparelia Group of Companies in  partnership with Nation Media’s NTV Uganda have pledged to raise money for improving hygiene in Kampala slums starting with  Kamwokya.

According to Rajiv Ruparelia, the director of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, this partnership will see them build pit latrines for the locals using proceeds from the upcoming 27th Royal Ascot Goat Races on 12th October 2019 at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

The goat races held at the Speke Resort on the shores of Lake Victoria, have been an annual Kampala tradition since 1993.

Speaking to press about the biggest event in Kampala city’s social calendar, Rajiv said, "Diseases like cholera, which is a result of poor hygiene, always break out in slum areas like Kamwokya and residents are too poor to afford proper treatment and end up dying. We need to prevent such diseases".

He further said, "We shall also train youths in the area to recycle plastics which block sewage channels and cause flooding".

Johnson Omolo, NTV Uganda General Manager, said, "It is our responsibility to educate the masses about good hygiene and dangers of disease outbreaks, a reason we have partnered in the initiative".

This initiative will start as soon as the long awaited Goat Races are climaxed.
