A police officer in Moroto Police is in trouble for raping a woman who had sought aid at Camp Swahili police post over the weekend.

The suspect is Corporal Moses Steven Ebu who was arrested from the police post shortly after the woman complained at Moroto central police station.

The victim (name withheld) went to Camp Swahili police post seeking help after failing to trace her relatives in Moroto. However, a boda boda rider identified as Samuel Abura, says he heard a woman crying for help inside camp Swahili police post at around 3 am but didn't know what was going on.

According to Abura, he thought the woman was one of the female suspects inside police cells.

Moroto District Police Commander David Kaunda is yet to comment on the issue, but Thomas Opiga, the Moroto Police Legal Officer confirmed the arrest of the suspect, explaining that the file is ready and that the suspect will appear before the court any time.

Opiga says that the woman had gone to seek refuge from police post after failing to get a transport car to take her to where she was going.

"This lady had gone to police post to seek help after failing to get means to take her where she was going and she had no relative in Moroto so this officer took that advantage to allegedly rape her,” Opiga said.
