The 52-year-old Portuguese is 2/1 to replace Dutchman with some bookies

Jose Mourinho is favourite to become the next Man United manager, according to The Metro.

The Portuguese was sensationally sacked on Thursday with his Chelsea side mounting what is becoming the worst title defence in Premier League history.

Who could replace Van Gaal as United manager?

As speculation grows as to who will replace him at Stamford Bridge, there is also huge interest in where he will go next and The Metro suggests Old Trafford is the front-runner.

The paper reports that the 52-year-old is 2/1 to replace Louis van Gaal with some bookies. Van Gaal's current contract doesn't expire until 2017, but the Dutchman is unpopular with United's supporters and, with Mourinho now available, the club could act swiftly to appease the club's fan base.

Man Utd and Chelsea are set to go head to head for Stoke City's Bojan Krkic, reveals Spanish daily Sport.

Bojan has struggled with injuries since signing for the Potters in the summer of 2014 but this season has been in fine form.

It is understood Liverpool and Valencia are also keen on the 25-year-old.

United are locked in a battle with some of Europe’s biggest clubs to seal the transfer of Servette's Lorenzo Gonzalez.

That's according to Sport Bild, which claims that, not only is the 15-year-old known as 'Speedy' after the Mexican mouse 'Speedy Gonzales', but he is considered one of the finest prospects in Switzerland.

Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Real Madrid and Juventus are also keen on forward.

Van Gaal will hunt for a new centre-back in January, suggests Yahoo, although former United star Nemanja Vidic will not be targeted.

And Arda Turan's agent has revealed his client nearly signed for United in the summer before completing a switch to Barcelona
