Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been offered £75 million to team up with former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson in the Chinese Super League, the Daily Mail understands.

The Swede currently manages Shanghai SIPG, who are ready to offer Rooney a three-year deal with the forward raking in a salary of £25m salary per season.

The club would also allow the 30-year-old a special image rights agreement if he can boost the profile of the Chinese top-flight abroad.

Eriksson could also be interested in luring Chelsea skipper John Terry to play in Asia, although Rooney remains their primary target as they try to beat off interest from Major League Soccer clubs.

The striker has failed to flourish under Louis van Gaal this season, and Shanghai could be encouraged by the fact he only has three years remaining on his present deal with the Old Trafford side.
