Lionel Messi is being reported to have received the sum of £2.4million in cash to officially lay the foundation stones for a new stadium in Port-Gentil. Gabon will be hosting the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and President Ali Bongo invited the Barcelona superstar to the foundation laying event of the stadium.

The leader of the African country insisted the Barcelona superstar was not paid but was fulfilling a promise by attending the event but French media, however insist the 28-year-old was paid for the trip.
