The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has today affirmed its commitment to the development of volleyball in Uganda with a sponsorship package of Shs70 million for the 20th edition of the NSSF-KAVC International volleyball tournament.

The tournament will take place on August 6th and August 7th 2016 at the Lugogo Indoor stadium, Namboole Sports Complex and Makerere University Business School grounds.

Unveiling the sponsorship, NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba said that the Fund’s involvement in volleyball demonstrates that the Fund is committed to the development of sports talent in Uganda.

“We continue to sponsor this tournament because NSSF-KAVC International has helped improve the competitiveness of our Ugandan volleyball teams by offering local teams an opportunity to compete against the best in the region. Over the last 8 years, we have seen a talented group of players emerge and compete at the highest level,” he said.

“We are glad to associate with KAVC for this year’s edition of the tournament and more importantly to announce our sponsorship package of Shs70 million as we continue our partnership with KAVC and the volleyball fraternity in Uganda,” he added.

The sponsorship will go towards meeting technical requirements such as equipment, logistics, publicity for the tournament, and prize money for the winners and finalists.

KAVC Vice President Ms. Diana Agaba said that the volleyball fraternity should expect a bigger and better organised tournament.

“As KAVC we are greatly indebted to NSSF for the sponsorship of this tournament over the last 8 years, which has grown to become Uganda’s biggest. We are grateful to this commitment to the game.

International competitions like the NSSF-KAVC tournament enhance the competitiveness of our teams through exposure,” she said.

She also said that all top teams in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi have confirmed participation, while others are expected from DRC, South Sudan and Kenya, among others.

At least seven regional teams from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have confirmed participation.
