Few years back, Wandegeya used to be a top city hangout. It would be full of campusers from Makerere University, MUBS, YMCA, among others. Beautiful girls from Makerere University would come down to Wandegeya to mix with the locals and have fun. Some would actually hook loaded men from there.
Top Hangouts like Bulldozers and College In were still shining and it was every campusers dream to be in those bars. Beers in most bars would go as much as 10k. It was a home of top local musicians. Bebe cool and Bobi wine would leave Wandegeya at 7am on a Friday night out.
In the whole country, Wandegeya was the only suburb where one would get classy and good chicken. It was known for its good and affordable chicken.
Sadly, the story is as different as of today. Wandegeya is the shadow of its self. Fake chicken is served on every street. Hawkers are the only noticeable ones on the streets. There is no recognisable bar. People sleep early which was not the case and it is now called Boring wandegeya. Three years back, Radio and Weasel tried bring back some life to Wandegeya by opening soldiers bar but they failed to manage it was sold. Wandegeya has nothing attractive.
CONMEN Take OVER
Top city conmen made Wandegeya their home. They are always smartly dressed and it is hard to tell if one is a conman. They mastered the art of conning. Knowing Wandegeya is near Makerere University, English is the only language they use. A conman from Wandegeya takes anything that crosses their eyes.
They normally move in two pairs and whenever they see a potential customer, one will try to ask for some directions from you. When you are not sharp, you will think, he is lost and try to help. He will thank you for helping him but you will meet the same conman at the next corner and claims to have failed to locate the right directions. In the process, he will ask for you phone to make the phone call. These days those conmen even run away with valuables.
SERVES THE CHEAPEST SEX
After marking our investigations, around Kampala suburbs, it was discovered that Wandegeya has Prostitutes that serve the cheapest sex. These prostitutes hail from nearby towns like Kawempe, Kalerwe and Bwaise among other places. As low as 2k, one can walk away with the beautiful girl for night. They start their work as early as 2pm. They are always in some corridors waiting for the night to fall.
EXPENSIVE STUDENTS’S HOSTELS NO MORE
10 years back, Wandegeya would have the most expensive hostels for students. Akamwesi being the leader of all of them. Without 1m per month that’s 4m per semester, you wouldn’t live in Akamwesi hostel. Today it all is history. Akamwesi is no more and any Tom and Dick can reside there.
