SOS Children’s Villages Uganda have launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise 6 billion shillings and support the Non-Governmental Organization increase the number of children in their care from 8,000 to 11,000 in the next three years.

The campaign dubbed “Every Child Deserves A Chance. Be That Chance” spearheaded by SOS Children’s Villages of Kakiri, Fort Portal, Gulu and Entebbe in partnership with some Corporate Companies and organizations such as Corporate Image Ltd, Mild May Uganda, Government of Uganda, UHMG, and JCRC Mengo, requires Ugandans to come together and contribute to children living in these homes, giving them an opportunity of a normal life.

Olive Birungi Lumonya, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Uganda said they have so far looked after over 60,000 children, directly in their homes or their family units however they need help to support many more of these children as the Country is known to have the highest number of orphan children in the world.

"We thought that it would be prudent if we sought help from our own backyard and ask willing and able Ugandans to come in and give us a hand so that together we can make a better life for all the children of Uganda.” Olive relayed at the Press conference in Entebbe.

Olive noted the drive is aimed at supporting orphaned and abandoned children left to fend for themselves at a tender age as a result of poverty, disease among other factors.

“Every Child Deserves A Chance. Be That Chance” crusade will help us continue to support children in our Family Care, we offer children a home in our villages where they grow up like any another family setting as it is known that children thrive better in a family set up than an orphanage. Olive stated.

She further mentioned donation avenues and encouraged many both in Uganda and abroad to reach out and support these children.

“You can donate through mobile money to (0776 505509 / 0705 505505), Bank deposits, online transfers and direct donations like clothes and food. You will receive a message automatically notifying you that we have received the donation or visit any of SOS Children’s homes across the country.” She concluded.
