Presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Robert Ssempala has been arrested by police and whisked away, moments after his nomination.
Kyagulanyi was Tuesday nominated by the Independent electoral commission to take part in the 2021 presidential election.
However, immediately after addressing the press at Kyambogo, Kyagulanyi was not allowed to enter his vehicle, but instead security arrested and whisked him away.
His security team led by Eddie Mutwe put up a serious fight but was overpowered by police officers. There are reports that he was taken to his home in Magere, where a group of his supporters have also engaged the police in running battles as they fight for the freedom of their candidate.
In a video circulating on social media and reportedly recorded by Kyagulanyi’s wife Barbara Itungo, Kyagulanyi’s security is heard saying “we are dying with him”.
