Officially Fired; POA camp finally releases statement Replacing LOP

The president general of opposition Forum for Democratic Change Party, Patrick Amuriat Oboi has today issued an official statement in regards to the firing and replacement of the leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Winnie Kiiza and other officials designated by his predecessor, Gen. Mugisha Muntu.

In a statement dated August 6 2018, Mr. Amuriat replaced Hon. Winnie Kiiza with Hon. Aol Betty Ochan, the Woman MP for Gulu district. He alsomaintained the opposition Chief Whip, hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, deputizing him with Hon. Muhindo Harold Tonny, the Bukonzo county East MP.

The parliamentary commissioner is Hon. Francis Mwijukye, the Buwheju MP, African Caribbean/EU Representative is Hon. Jack Wamai Wamanga. To the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), POA has designated Hon. Roland Mugume of Rukungiri Municipality, while Hon. Betty Nambooze gos to the Common Wealth Parliamentary Association. Hon. William Nzoghu, the MP Busongora county goes to the Pan African Parliament (PAP).

In accordance with the constitution of Uganda, the Administration of Parliament (Amendment) Act; Section 2, 6C,6I,6J and the Rules of Procedure of parliament, Rule 11, Rule 13 and Appendix D, the Forum for Democratic Change at its 181st National Executive Committee meeting held on August 3rd 2018, made these changes to the opposition leadership in parliament. This is to inform you to process these changes as per law and rules” reads the letter authored by Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the part secretary general, addressed to Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.  

Earlier today, LOP, Hon. Winnie Kiiza claimed she had not received official communication replacing her, and had promised to remain acting in her capacity until such a time as when the official letter would be dropped in her office.

“I tried to find out from parliament if there has been any communication yet. I tried to reach out to my party leader, I have not been successful” Kiiza told the press today.

When asked to explain the drastic changes, Amuriat said they were based on loyalty.
