Opposition Forum for Democratic Change party, FDC will not extend the polling date for party presidential election, despite one of the candidates being incarcerated by police.

Hon. Patrick Amuriat was arrested on Thursday alongside former party president Dr. Kiiza Besigye and party mobilize, Ingrid Turinawe in Rukungiri.

Amuriat was meant to campaign in the aforementioned area, and also join Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume, to consult on the age limit Bill. However, they were intercepted by police, and one person died in the scuffle.

Police has since arrested and held them at Nagalama Police station in Kampala, and threatened to charge them with the murder of Edson Nasasira, but they are yet to be arraigned before Court.

This morning, several party members showed up at Nagalama demanding their release.

Now, addressing the press at the FDC head offices in Najjanankumbi on Monday morning, Lubega Hussein, a party electoral commissioner said candidates were given more than 90 days to campaign, and this will not change.

He says initially, the polling date was set for 17th November, but extended to the 24th of the same month. He says there’s no room for another change in date.

This morning, Matsiko Dan one of the candidates put his campaigns on hold to support his counterpart Amuriat.

Lubega insists the incarcerated will be released on police bond, or arraigned before courts of law and released on Bail.
