Former Forum for Democratic leader Dr Kizza Besigye has been arrested in downtown Kampala as he attempted to make his way through mini price.

Besigye had attracted a multitude of supporters at the time of his arrest. The police later whisked him to the Central Police Station. It is not yet clear if he may be transferred to another location.

Meanwhile, dozens of plain clothed security personnel and crime preventers have been deployed outside parliament as legislators converge for the much anticipated presented of a motion for the amendment of the constitution to lift the presidential age limit.

The deployment occurred at around 2:00 pm, just after Uganda Young Democrats activists had stormed the parliamentary gate in protest against lifting of the presidential age limit.

The UYD activists engaged the police in a dramatic and exciting fist and kick fight before being overwhelmed and arrested. The plain clothed personnel and crime preventers were brought aboard police patrol pickups and dropped where there is a media scrum.

'They look like hardcore, some clearly bearing big scars on their faces,' our reporter said on a description of the personnel.
