The Uganda police force has vowed to stay away from the woes between KACITA and street vendors in Kampala, unless they are called in officially.

Police heavily deployed in the city over the weekend up to date after traders under their umbrella body of KACITA promised to use any necessary means to evict vendors from the streets.

The Kampala Capital City Authority, KCCA had initially chased the vendors off the streets after controversy broke out between shop owners and the former.

Shop owners claim vendors who do not pay rent occupy their space and sell the same commodities like theirs at lower costs, successfully luring away the customers.

Vendors claim to be operating on executive orders of the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and President Yoweri Museveni, whom they claim allowed their operations on the streets.

Now, Kaweesi says they will only offer help if an agreement is reached by the groups and they are officially asked to.
