President Yoweri Museveni is in Nairobi, Kenya where he has addressed the Tokyo International Conference of African Development (TICAD).

President Museveni left this morning for the conference. The Tokyo International Conference of African Development (TICAD) external link was launched in 1993 by the Government of Japan, to promote Africa’s development, peace and security, through the strengthening of relations in multilateral cooperation and partnership, particularly with the country.

TICAD contributes to the facilitation and promotion of high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and Africa’s development partners on issues pertaining to economic growth, trade and investment, sustainable development, human security, peace and stability and government.

 Being a multilateral partnership, TICAD process also actively promotes South-South and triangular cooperation, in addition to traditional cooperation.

In his address, Museveni said democracy is good as People can speak out, however in itself democracy cannot bring social economic transformation.

Museveni added; “Democracy! China has developed without democracy. Africa we have it but are still undeveloped. Democracy is good. People can speak out, however in itself democracy cannot bring social economic transformation.”

Museveni told attending heads of state that good governance is not just about elections but lifting Africans from poverty.
