Drama ensued this afternoon after the Assistant Commissioner of Police James Ruhweza shifted blame and pinned his junior commander Superintendent of Police Moses Nanoka and his escort Robert Wanzala in the ongoing trial against police officers accused of brutally caning supporters of former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye in Kampala.

Ruhweza, was the overall commander of the operation of July 12, the day Kizza Besigye was granted bail and released from Luzira prison.

He has been on the spot for commanding the brutal officers who beat up unarmed civilians, but shifted the blame to his junior officers for the brutality that was captured on video footage and aired by various media houses.

Nanoka was not seen in the video footage, but his boss told court that he was in the police patrol car that was carrying military police personnel and Field Force Police officers who were brutalizing civilians in Kalerwe, a suburb of Kampala.

Ruhweza further told the disciplinary court chaired by Senior Commissioner of Police Denis Odongpiny that Nanoka was in charge of the vehicle whose personnel unleashed brutality on the civilians.
