A case in which the Attorney General wants a ban slapped on the opposition FDC defiance campaign has hit a snag after judges failed to show up for the hearing.

The constitutional court designated today Friday as the day its panel of five judges would hear the case involving FDC and former party presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye.

However, two of the justices, lady justice Catherine Bamugemereire and Cheborion Barishaki did not showup. According to the court registrar, Bamugemereire lost a relative, while Barishaki is attending a conference in Nairobi.

The case which was before five judges led by Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma was adjourned to 23rd June 2016. Other judges on the panel are Richard Butera and Elizabeth Musoke.

The Attorney General’s office insists both parties were informed on time about the judges’ absence from court. FDC officials who had showed up at court were led by Ingrid Turinawe, the party women league leader.

Security had been tightened around the court since FDC iron man Besigye was expected to attend today’s hearing in person. He is in Luzira on treason charges.

The party is yet to comment on the matter.
