The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura, has suspended three senior police officers from Busoga East region including Besigye’s long time tormentor Sam Omalla over alleged electoral irregularities.

Police deputy spokesperson Polly Namaye confirmed the development explaining that  Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omalla, the Busoga East Field Force Police (FFP) Zonal Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Ashraf Chemonges Seiko, the Busoga East Regional Police Commander and Namutumba District Police Commander Superintendent of Police, Bashir Ssempala were the affected officers.

These were suspended last evening alongside Inspector of Police (IP) Henry Mugoda, the officer in charge Kibale Sub county police station in Namutumba and his junior Police Constable, Kevin Akite.

The officers were suspended to pave way for thorough investigations into their role in the February 18th elections in Namutamba and Tororo district. They were pinned by residents for electoral irregularities that occurred in the area three months ago.

Omalla earned a celebrity status in Uganda when he arrested Besigye more times than any other officers in Kampala. He also appeared on NTV’s comic program point blank more times than its presenter Agnes Nandutu.
