The government of Uganda is in talks with their south Sudanese counterparts to help them find at least 23 youth who were abducted by suspected South Sudan militants from Yumbe district last week.

According to police reports, the youths initially 26, were picked up from Koci Sub County by 9 men dressed in military attire and brandishing four AK47 riffles before leading them to South Sudan.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga says police and military tried to pursue the abductors but could not enter foreign territory without permission.

According to Enanga, Preliminary Investigations indicate that the gunmen took the abductees towards Jalimo area in Central Equatorial Province in South Sudan, where the training camp of rebels loyal to former Sudanese People's Liberation Army Commander, Major Gen Martin Kenyi is found.

Now, the Ugandan government has through the president's office contacted the Commissioner Kajokeji County in South Sudan to help track down the abductees.

"The 309 brigade Commander in liaison with the Regional Police Commander (RPC) North West Nile have met with the District Security Committee and have resolved to try and establish contact with the suspected abductors and finding a way of pursuing them to return the abductees," Enanga said.
