The Director Public Prosecution, DPP has revealed that government plans to hire security details for very important government officials including judicial officers.

DPP Mike Chibita revealed this while addressing the media in Kampala, ahead of the late Joan Kagezi’s public lecture coming soon.

“We have taken some measures and government has been good enough to avail a budget to hire security for some select staff,” said Chibita.

According to the DPP, the greatest security for all Ugandans is that they are able to detect before it happens.

He honored the late Joan Kagezi as an international prosecutor who worked in South Africa too, and was ready to try rebel head Kwoyelo five years ago.

Senior state prosecutor Joan Kagezi was gunned down on 30th March 2013, in what the Police termed as a planned assassination.

According to witnesses, she was shot by two assailants who had trailed her using a motorcycle up to Najjera, a Kampala suburb.

At the time of her death, Ms Kagezi was prosecuting a high profile case involving the July 2010 Kampala bomb suspects.

The DPP says some steps have been taken to bring her killers to book.

“I am not comfortable and not happy that the trial of Joan Kagezi has not been heard. Of course I'm not. Some steps have to be taken,” Chibita added.

Chibita says investigations into Kagezi’s murder continue.
