Former Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate, Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye has denied any ties with the infamous Yiira republic as insinuated by his NRM counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni.

During a meeting with the leaders of Kasese district on Monday, President Museveni asked them to take the message of peace to the people and the region and to advise them to ignore anybody giving them negative and false hopes of the creation of the so-called Yiira Republic.

He was quoted saying; “I want to state categorically that Uganda will not lose even an inch of her land to the creation of the so-called Yiira republic and whoever wants that republic should create it outside Uganda's territory.”

Museveni added that; “Even Besigye who promised it if he became President and made that mistake, he would not sleep in State House that day.”

This however angered the FDC iron man who is still recuperating from the February presidential election loss, prompting him to take to his twitter account and write; “Something is seriously wrong with Mr M7! I've never, neither anyone I know, has promised Yiira Republic.”

The President later held a meeting with the Omusinga of Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere, at Mweya Safari Lodge.

According to state house, this meeting is significant as the Government engages all key stakeholders to ensure a permanent solution is found to the political and socio-economic issues affecting the Rwenzori sub-region

The President also held a meeting with the King of the Bamba, Omudingya Lt. Col. John Kamya.
