The chief justice, Bart Katureebe has warned lawyers of defeated presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi against wasting Supreme Court’s time.
The warning was sounded this afternoon by a seemingly tired Katureebe, when Mbabazi’s lawyers in the election petition, led by Mbabazi Muhamed filed new affidavits beyond the stipulated time.
The chief justice was forced to adjourn the court hearing to tomorrow 9:00am, warning against time wasting" and "ambushes by Mbabazi’s lawyers.
Earlier in the day, electoral commission chairman Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu took to the dock as the first witness to be cross examined by the petitioner.
Kiggundu denied any wrong doing or rigging during the 18th February election.
Kiggundu entered the dock at 11:57am and took oath. He was later cross examined by Muhammad Mbabazi who asked the EC boss whether in announcing the election results at Namboole he used the declaration of results forms from the district or the electronic version.
Kiggundu told court that he used the scanned version since the copies from the district had not yet come.
The same court allowed Makerere University Dons as friends of court, but denied the plea by civil society organizations, CSOs to do the same.
The nine MUK Dons include; Prof. Oloka Onyango, Prof. Sylvia Tamale, Dr Christopher Mbaziira, Dr Rose Nakayi, Dr Busingye Kabumba. Others are Dr Ronald Nuluwairo, Dr Daniel Ruhweza, Dr Kakungulu Mayambala and Dan Ngabirano.
Their application was accepted by the judges on account of a proven record in human rights, constitutionalism and good governance.
