Uganda police has warned journalists that unless they start acting in a professional manner, they will continue arresting them.

This was contained in a statement released by the police deputy spokesperson Polly Namaye this evening, relating to the arrest of a journalist this afternoon at Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s home.

According to the statement, Ingrid Turinawe, an FDC official, Remmy Bahati, a journalist, and Sempijja Ismail were arrested for obstructing Police officers on duty and disobeying lawful orders given to them by the Kasangati Division Police Commander, Superintendent of  Police Kawalya James.

“The guidance (order) was to park their vehicles at the parking area police had gazzetted for parking.” Says Namaye

She adds; “Some members of the visiting group of about thirty five (35) people complied and parked their vehicles while others objected, necessitating their arrest.”

Namaye re-assured the media fraternity of their commitment towards working together harmoniously, but encouraged the latter to maintain a professional code of conduct and to desist from disobeying lawful orders aimed at managing public order.
