Erias Lukwago, the embattled city lord mayor has scoffed at Police for charging him with Preventive action, saying there is no such offense in the Ugandan laws.

Lukwago was charged with preventive action after he was he was picked up by police on Wednesday while leaving his home to attend a public rally organized by Moses Kasibante, the Lubaga North MP.

He was charged VIDE/SD/REF 36/19/03/2014 at Jinja road police station and released on police bond. According to the bond document, Police ordered Lukwago to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department at Old Kampala police station on 20th March to ‘further answer the said charges’.

The document also shows that the state stood surety for the lord mayor. Lukwago who appeared at high court this morning during the hearing of one of his petitions, laughed off the bond document saying he is not aware of any law in Uganda, which provides for the offense he was charged with.

He vowed to defy police on the matter and go ahead to address his planned rallies in the city next week.

Patrick Onyango, the deputy police spokesperson told local media that they are still trying to verify the said bond document adding that, it could have been forged. According to Onyango, he was informed that Lukwago has been released without charge.
