Women activists have protested against the move by the public to undress women wearing miniskirts saying it’s a violation of women’s rights but lauded Cabinet for recalling Pornography law.

The outrage of women activists follows the passing of Pornography bill into law which prevents the wearing of skimpy dresses or indecent dressing.

They however applauded the Cabinet for recalling the Pornography law. “We support the decision by Cabinet to recall the law and repeal the contentious issues clauses.

We urge Cabinet to handle this issue as emergency,” Aciro said The activists wore miniskirts to show their displeasure after the public recently undressed miniskirts wearers in the streets of Kampala and Iganga town.

The Police spokesperson Judith Nabakoba last week warned the public into not taking law into their hands. The protestors carried placards with messages; “don’t sexualize my body,” “undress your government not innocent women,” “my body my business,” “thou shall not touch my miniskirt.” Other messages are “stop violence against women and girls” and “my money, my closest my body love my miniskirt.”

The women activists aired their grievances during a press briefing at National Theatre in Kampala on Wednesday.

The anti- riot Police was deployed the monitor the activities of the protestors who were confined at the theatre. The activists urged the integrity minister Fr. Simon Lokodo to pronounce himself on the assault of some women following the enacting of Pornography Law. They called on him to condemn the acts of men who undressed miniskirt wearers recently.

The activists also appealed to the Police and Kampala Capital City Authority law enforcement to keep Kampala safe for women and girls. “This is an urgent appeal to the Uganda Police Force and KCCA to keep the streets of Kampala safe for mothers, daughters, sisters and wives by apprehending all those who perpetuate violence towards women and girls,” Rita Aciro the executive director of Uganda Women’s Network said.

They activists asked the public to cooperate and report those suspects who undress women to Police and also lauded the Cabinet for recalling the passed law.
