During the launch of the commission's strategic plan for 2022-2023, 2026-2027, and the roadmap for 2025-2026 elections in Kampala, Mr. Leonard Mulekwah, the secretary-general of the Electoral Commission, disclosed that they are projecting to use a total of Shs1.38 trillion in organizing the 2026 general elections.

The roadmap outlines various important dates and activities leading up to the elections. Verification of academic papers for presidential, parliamentary, and local government leaders will take place from 3rd July 2025 to 1st August 2025. The compilation of voters' registers for youth, persons with disabilities, older person workers, UPDF, and professional bodies is scheduled between 3rd and 24th January 2025.

Public servants intending to contest must resign between 2nd August and 13th June 2025. The general update of voters' registers in each parish will be conducted from 3rd to 24th January 2025. Nomination of candidates at both national and local government levels will occur from 14th July 2025 to 12th December 2025.

For the presidential candidates, the nomination is set to take place between 2nd October and 3rd October 2025, aligning with the Presidential Elections Act.

As per the roadmap, the polling for presidential, parliamentary, and local government councils will be held from 12th January to 9th February 2026.
