The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) is in pursuit of a soldier affiliated with the Mountain Division in Fort Portal, following a tragic incident in which he shot and killed two of his colleagues, while injuring another.
According to Col Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Defence Spokesperson, Corporal Avugo Lomuro from the Mountain Division Signal Department, attached to the Airforce Evacuation Component, committed the heinous act on Thursday night.
Akiiki further mentioned that the names of the victims are being withheld, in accordance with the UPDF policy of informing the families first.
Following the incident, Avugo fled the scene, and authorities are actively engaged in locating and apprehending him.
Akiiki emphasized that the UPDF denounces the actions of the soldier, regardless of the circumstances. He reiterated that the institution has well-established mechanisms for addressing internal grievances, which the soldier should have followed.
