The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has granted cash bail of 10 million Shillings to Amos Lugoloobi, the State Minister for Finance and Economic Planning.

Lugoloobi is facing charges related to the alleged diversion of 700 pre-painted iron sheets that were intended for vulnerable people in Karamoja. The court granted Lugoloobi bail following a successful application by his lawyers.

They argued that Lugoloobi had a fixed place of abode and presented substantial sureties, including other politicians and a former best man. Lugoloobi's health issues, including heart disease and diabetes, and recent heart surgery, were also cited.

Although the prosecution opposed the bail application, stating that inquiries in the case were in advanced stages and could be completed within a week, the court found no evidence to support these claims and granted bail on stringent terms.

These terms include surrendering his original land title and diplomatic passport and providing non-cash bail of 100 million Shillings from each surety. The case has been adjourned to June 2nd, and Lugoloobi's supporters, who had gathered at the court, expressed excitement upon hearing the news of his release on bail.
