The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has donated 3.5 metric tons of food to 75 homesteads of the Dhaglo Cad center IDP camp. The donation, which included rice, wheat, sugar, cooking oil, and dates, was presented during a function held at Marine Gate in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador El-Amine Souef, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Head of ATMIS, expressed solidarity with the Somali people who are fasting during the Holy month of Ramadan. He said that Ramadan is a month of charity, sacrifice, and forgiveness, and urged Muslims to share what they have with others.

Brig Gen Peter Gaetano Omola, the host of the event and Sector One Commander, thanked the SRCC for appreciating the Somali community during Ramadan. He also expressed gratitude to the Somali people for their support to ATMIS, and said that the donation was a way of strengthening the relationship between the mission and the people of Somalia.

The Dhaglo Cad IDP Camp leader, Mr. Gabdi Siyaad Xiray, and the women leader, Mrs. Shamso Aapan, expressed their gratitude to ATMIS for the generosity shown towards their families. They noted that there is an urgent need for food, water supply, medicine, and shelter in the camp, and requested ATMIS to intervene to alleviate the suffering of their people.
