Test results for the two suspected Ebola cases in Kitgum district have turned out negative.

The two were admitted to the isolation unit at Kitgum General Hospital and their samples were taken to the virus research Institute in Entebbe for testing on Thursday.

This came after medical personnel in Kitgum District identified two patients; a 75-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy from Pajimo Health Center III who were showing signs of Ebola a week ago.

However, Titus Komakech the Kitgum District Disease Surveillance Focal person says that the test results that came out this morning were negative.

He also said that they will accompany the two home to allay fears among the community and reduce the stigma he said was already being suffered by the families of the two.

On September 20, the Ministry of Health announced an outbreak of Ebola after a case of the relatively rare Sudan strain was confirmed in the Mubende district in the central part of the country.
Up to 60 cases, 23 confirmed deaths, and 20 probable Ebola-related deaths have been reported since the outbreak.
