The judiciary is proposing a plan to establish a High Court in Kasese High Court. Kasese is currently under Fort Portal High Court which is more than 70 kilometers away.

According to the Fort Portal Resident High Court Judge, Justice Vincent Emmy Mugabo, the judiciary has already considered establishing a High Court in the district due to the long distance.

He said this process will begin with gazettement and naming of the High Court and later followed by recruitment of judicial officers.

However, Justice Mugabo asked the leaders to avail land where the High Court premises will be established. He also asked the leaders to consider securing land for the establishment of a remand home saying the one in Fort Portal is congested.

Mugabo also mentioned that the judiciary is currently challenged by a lack of prosecutors which has hindered the timely dispensation of justice in time. He mentioned that currently, they are relying on State Attorneys to provide services.

At the moment Hima, Bwera, and Rwimi Grade I Courts don’t have prosecutors.

The LCV Chairperson Kasese Eliphazi Muhindi Bukombi said that the district has land which it will offer to the judiciary. He said this matter will be tabled in the district executive committee meeting for discussion.
