The Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola has officially retired a total of 38 senior police officers at police headquarters in Naguru.

Among them include three Assistant Inspector Generals (AIGPs) of Police and 35 other top officers.

The AIGPs include retired Director of Police Operations, Edward Osiru Ochom, Asan Kasingye former Director of the Chief Political Commissariat, and Andrew Sorowen who retired as Director of Welfare and Production.

The trio retired in May after the President rejected to renew their contracts.

However, Kasingye did not show up for the official retirement ceremony under unclear circumstances. However, he posted an honorable message on his social media platforms about the ceremony and his reign in the police.

“In a tweet he posted “big day for us today at the police headquarters, I wish all retired police officers a happy and prosperous retirement. Thankyou for your patriotism, hard work and giving the best of your lives to serve Ugandans. Thankyou UPF for the big sendoff.” He wrote

IGP Ochola in his speech commended the officers for a great service to the country. He said a big number of officers join the service but few are able to attend such functions as a result of deaths, desertion, voluntary resignation, and disciplinary or criminal misconducts that lead them to prison.

“It is, therefore, only through such a gathering that we are accorded a lifetime opportunity to express gratitude, respect, reverence and honor to our own officers whose invaluable contributions are hardly brought to light. We all know that you started service when you were many, young and energetic, but some of the colleagues you joined with, fell by the wayside. It is truly remarkable that a few of you endured and diligently served our country to attain this impressive milestone in your life with great integrity.” Ochola said

He jokingly told the retirees not to lose hope since they can be appointed Inspector General of Police because it's a political appointment.
