Police at Kampala Metropolitan have intensified deployment over emerging reports of protests in the City.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson says they have intelligence information that a group of people is planning a demonstration on Tuesday.

He says the group plans to petition the Speaker of Parliament over irregularities in the ongoing registration of Boda Boda riders by Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA).

Owoyesigyire adds that the preliminary reports indicate that the group is being facilitated by a section of politicians to create havoc in the City.

He says they are disguising themselves by presenting a petition to Parliament to complain about fees charged against Boda Boda riders.

“We have received information that political factions are spearheading this illegal demonstration. We would like to warn the organizers and participants that they will be arrested and prosecuted for organizing an illegal demonstration. “ he says

He has asked those planning the demonstration to use lawful means well established in the Public Order Management Act to avoid any inconveniences.

Owoyesigyire says has deployed accordingly to deter any wrong elements from going ahead with any unlawful plans.

On Monday, police spokesperson Fred Enanga warned that selected individuals and groups were plotting unlawful processions and assemblies, as a way of expressing discontent against the surge in commodity prices and fuel.

He said unlawful protests and demonstrations incite violence, disrupt people’s rights, destroy and vandalize property, markets, and pedestrians among others.
