His resignation comes after President Yoweri Museveni did not renew his contract.

Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIGP) Edward Ochom has officially retired from Uganda Police Force as Director of Operations

Ochom handed over office to his deputy John Nuwagira on Monday morning at the Police Headquarters in Naguru.

Ochom was appointed to Director of Operations by the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola on June 03, 2020, replacing AIGP Asuman Mugenyi who retired.

His resignation comes after President Yoweri Museveni did not renew his contract.

He follows in the footsteps of others including former Director Peace Support Mission AIGP Grace Turyagumanawe who retired in 2021, former Criminal Investigations Director AIGP Elizabeth Kuteesa who retired in 2018, former Interpol Director AIGP Fred Yiga who retired in 2019, and Commissioner of Police Nyeko who retired this year.

Prior to his appointment, Ochom served as the directorate of Research and Planning to fill the gap left behind by AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi who retired after his contract expired.

On February 1st this year, AIGP Edward Ochom, marked 35 years of service in the police force.

He joined the police in 1987 as one of the first groups of Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police after the National Resistance Army -NRA led by now President Yoweri Museveni had captured power.
