There was fear and Panic in Namugongo after a pilgrim collased and died, on their way to Nakiyanja, the Anglican Martyrs Shrine.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO KMP, the deceased is Arinitwe Jackline a 49-year-old resident of Katokori Village, Kyanarwa Parish, Katanda sub-county in Rubirizi District.

It is reported that the incident happened on Monday 30/05/2022 at about 11:30 am in Namugongo Parish, Kira Municipality Wakiso District, between the Catholic and Anglican shrines.  

She had trekked with 89 other pilgrims from west Ankole diocese ahead of the martyrs’ day celebrations slated for Friday 3rd June. 

Owoyesigyire says they are yet to establish what caused her to collapse and die, but her body has been conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem to help establish the exact cause of death. 

“The police would like to convey their condolences to the family of the deceased person and also advise all pilgrims to always rehydrate in a way of taking enough water and also have enough rest during the pilgrimage,” he added.
