Parents have started picking their children from Bilal Schools Bwaise which was gutted by fire on Sunday night, destroying learners' property including books and beddings.

The fire destroyed dormitories of senior one and two male students.

On Monday morning, parents rushed to the school to check on their children’s safety but were not allowed access until certain protocols were put in place.

Police has deployed at the school to ensure that children do not leave with strangers, and all parents are required to sign before being allowed to take the children.

Parents, most of who are in tears are seen hugging their children.

One of the parents with two children, one in senior one and another in senior two, says all her children's properties were destroyed yet she had paid half of the school fees and requirements.

She is worried about looking for more money to buy the requirements which were destroyed in the fire.

According to Kawempe Division Mayor Emmanuel Sserunjoji who was allowed to briefly visit the affected dormitories, nothing was saved.

He says the leadership at the division shall make recommendations that all schools with boarding schools have cameras and their electrical wiring system be checked annually to ensure its integrity.

The school management has asked day scholars to stay home and return on Wednesday while those in Senior one and two have been asked to come back next week.
