The police commanders in North Kyoga have cracked down on thugs who have been targeting and attacking boda boda riders, stealing their motorcycles and killing the victims.

According to CP Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, the group has members in different parts of the country who identify new motorcycles and plan for their theft.

The thugs had a ready market in South Sudan, DRC and Kenya. Enanga says they first arrested one member of the gang identified as Okori Mondri a 28-year-old boda boda rider from Apach Town Council who was tracked and arrested in Kwania district, where the police also recovered a stolen motorcycle reg. no UEU 548Q, a bajaj boxer red in color.

“He just returned from Soroti. Fortunately, his arrest led to the recovery of ten more suspected stolen motorcycles. Five of them were recovered from his premises and an additional five from his accomplices in Kwania and Apach districts respectively,” says Enanga.

So far, four suspects who form part of this criminal gang have been arrested including Okori Mondri, Okello Dan, Olua Benson all from Apach, and Okollo Dan from Kwania district.

Enanga says they are now hunting for two other suspects identified as Okwir Dennis the gang leader in North Kyoga region and Akaki Sam who are the masterminds behind the aggravated robbery and murders of boda boda riders.

“We also established that they have a racket that has been helping them to forge log books, chassis and engine numbers from Lira City, who are being pursued.”
