Emmanuel Turyasingura Mutambuuka, the National Unity Platform (NUP) party coordinator in charge of Rukiga District has been granted bail by Kabale Grade one Magistrates court following charges of wearing unauthorized uniform that is a preserve of the armed forces.

Prosecution told Court presided over by His Lordship Isaac Rukundo, that between March and May 2021, Turyasingura while in Muhanga town council, Rukiga district, was found wearing a red beret, a monopoly of the Defense Forces.

It is remembered that the beret was a signature headgear for the opposition National Unity Platform, before being designated as official military clothing, a move that bans its use by people who do not belong to the armed forces.

It was in line with the gazette dated September 18, 2019, that the sale or wearing of any attire which resembles the army uniform was banned.

Members of the public found in possession of the items are liable on conviction to imprisonment under section 160 of the UPDF act. This also applies to persons who sell or wear side caps, bush hats, ceremonial forage caps and camouflaged baseball caps.

However, Turyasingura pleaded not guilty and asked court to grant him a bail because he has been in police detention since Thursday last week.

His worship Rukundo later granted him a cash bail of Uganda shillings 200.000 and two of his sureties including the pastor of Muhanga Pearl Deliverance Richard Mucunguzi his brother  Bruno Mutambuuka each was bonded for 500.000 Shillings -not cash and then he adjourned the case till June 30th 2021 when it will come up for mention.
