Rwampara District Police Commander Patrick Opiyo is in trouble after Independent Presidential Candidate Henry Tumukunde threatened to sue him for allegedly blocking his supporters from accessing a campaign venue on Thursday.

According to Tumukunde, he was scheduled to meet his supporters at Kinoni playground on Thursday but claims to have arrived to an empty venue manned by police personnel at 4:30 p.m.

The duo was engaged in a bitter exchange as security chased motorcyclists who attempted parking along the highway.

Earlier on Thursday, Police held a meeting with Tumukunde and blocked him from campaigning along the road after concluding his campaign meeting at Nyeihanga Town Council, Ntungamo district.

However, the candidate accused the police of disrupting his campaigns and being prejudicial.

DPC Opiyo also denied the accusations of blocking the meeting but instead argued that his duty was to manage traffic flow along the highway and not to chase people away from the meeting venue.

After the two hour long altercation, Tumukunde decided to use a public speaker for an open address followed by a door-to-door walk, through people’s homes in Kinoni town.

Tumukunde held a meeting with his supporters in Ntungamo District at Embassy Towers along Kategaya Road and had a free procession in town which however was disrupted by rain that lasted for two hours on Thursday.

Today Friday November 13, 2020, Tumukunde is expected to campaign in the districts of Mbarara, Kiruhura, Kazo and Ibanda
