Kabale man arrested from hideout after chopping two people to death

Police in Kabale have arrested John Mugisha 43 years, a resident of Nyamugoma village, Kaharo parish in Kaharo Sub County for hacking two people to death and injuring two others following a domestic wrangle.

Police in Kabale have arrested John Mugisha 43 years, a resident of Nyamugoma village, Kaharo parish in Kaharo Sub County for hacking two people to death and injuring two others following a domestic wrangle. 

Mugisha murdered his step mother, Jacenta Birungi and his brother, Stephen Twebaze before injuring Annah Tukamushaba alias girl and another person only identified as Kabuga.

One of the residents identified as Bernard Turyahumura says the gruesome incident occurred around 7:30pm on Sunday, when Mugisha found Twebaze at Nyabitabo trading Centre where she was drinking and picked up a quarrel. 

The suspect reportedly accused Twebaze and Birungi of taking over the family land and practicing witchcraft. Armed with a machete, the suspect chopped Tumwebaze into pieces. 

Mugisha then rushed home where he found Birungi preparing supper and also cut her into pieces. And later turned against Tukamushaba and Kabuga who tried to raise alarm to call for help.

On Monday morning, residents called Mugisha’s phone he told them that he wanted to return and hack more people including Sam Kibeeko and two others only identified as Commander and Olevu before he commits suicide. 

However, Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police Spokesperson says the suspect has been arrested by police from his hideout in kaharp and is now in police custody.

The suspect had allegedly threatened to kill the deceased for practicing witchcraft and taking over their family land
