Fallen soldier Maj Gen (Rtd) Samuel Waswa Kasirye Gwanga has this afternoon been laid to rest with a 13 gun salute honor by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces.

Gen Gwanga who died at Nakasero Hospital on Tuesday, was laid to rest at 1:40pm this afternoon at Nkene village Busujju County in Mityana district.

Speaker after speaker, they all praised him for loving his job, fighting for communal rights and speaking the brutal truth even when everyone else was scared to speak up.

The chief mourner Gen. Katumba Wamala reminisced the day he went to meet the President with issues to present. But while everyone waited outside the office, Gen Gwanga entered, told the President the issues and walked out with his head high.

He also revealed that despite being in the military for at least 47 years, he never chased after riches, but did his job diligently.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi remembers Gwanga as a fair man who did not play favorites especially in the UPDF. He noted that despite one’s rank, if a soldier needed help from Gwanga’s office, he always gave them a listening ear.

Kasirye Gwabga was born on 1st January 1952 in Mubende district and died at 68 years of age.

He goes down as one soldier that always loved to tell his story to the media whenever approached. Gen Kasirye Gwanga will be remembered for playing a role in so many wars including one that brought the current government into power.

The burial ceremony was attended by Ministers, MPs, local leaders, family and the UPDF family.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
