The body of the fallen Maj General (Rtd) Kasirye Gwanga will on Friday morning leave Bombo Military Hospital for burial after the UPDF took over preparations and announced that no vigil would be held at any of his homes.

General Kasirye Gwanga died on Tuesday morning at Nakasero Hospital and his body has since been taken to Bombo Military Hospital for further management.
“It was agreed that as we mourn the demise of our Gallant (Rtd) General, we must also not forget that COVID 19 is still with us and the country continue to receive new infections” Lt Col Deo Akiiki the Defence spokesperson says.

According to Akiiki the military met with the departed General’s family and agreed that there shall be no vigil at any of the family homes to allow social distancing, only a sizable number of family members and military officials to attend the burial shall be selected and named to avoid crowding.
Also, the UPDF medical services shall ensure all preventive measures such as; hand sanitizing, social distancing and face masking are observed and security measures shall be put in place and implemented by joint security forces to ensure COVID 19 prevention guidelines are followed during the burial ceremonies.

At the burial grounds, a brief burial program shall be followed and later the late Gwanga buried in the full honors of a UPDF General.

The late Kasirye Gwanga will be remembered for his straight forward personality. Many say he was a man who said what he thought, and thought exactly what he said.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
