Hundreds of residents of the controversial Lusanja land have some smiles after High Court in Kampala blocked Kampala City businessman Medard Kiconco from evicting them.

The events happened on Thursday when Court presided over by Justice Henrietta Wolayo issued a stay of execution order after considering the interests of hundreds of people due to be evicted.

Businessman Kiconco obtained an eviction order from the Deputy Registrar of the High Court Deo Ninzeyimana last week.

This prompted the residents through their lawyer  Nalukoola Luyimbazi to also file an application seeking to stay the eviction order until the Court of Appeal addresses their grievances arising from a  2019 Judgment delivered by the then  High Court Land Division Judge Tadeo Asiimwe.

The order issued indicated that residents must occupy the contentious piece of land until the Appellant Court disposes the appeal.

The residents in the Appeal, challenge Justice Tadeo Asiimwe's Judgment that ordered them to vacate after declaring them as trespassers on the land where they claim that they rightfully acquired Bibanja interests.

Beti Kamya the Minister for Lands started negotiations with Kiconco to see if they can purchase the land in question on behalf of the residents.
