Police in Wamala region are investigating circumstances under which Patrick Manihiro a 13 year old pupil at Bukuya Primary school was shot and killed by a stray bullet fired by officers who had responded to a disturbance call about an aggressive dog that was threatening to attack and injure resident.

The incident happened on 28th January 2020 at Bukuya Town Council, Kassanda district.

According to Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, an officer identified as ASP Obbu Franco was in-charge Bukuya police station; he confronted and fired at the vicious dog but accidentally missed it and the bullet unfortunately hit the child and killed him instantly.

“The suspect dropped the gun and escaped from the scene. A serious manhunt for his arrest is ongoing” Enanga said.

He added that the officer should have handled the matter in a better way and urged him to come out of hiding and hand himself to the nearest police station.
Enanga cautioned his relatives and friends who could be having knowledge of his whereabouts to desist from harboring him but call the police and share such information with them.

“The IGP has extended his condolences and prayers to the immediate family of the late Patrick Manihiro. He has also dispatched a team that has reached out to the family and further tasked them to fast track the investigations and also ensure the suspect is traced, arrested and brought to justice” Enanga says.
