Sadness has gripped residents of Igamba ward in Iganga municipality after two  children died in hailstorms that hit the area and destroyed their house on Monday morning.

Sadness has gripped residents of Igamba ward in Iganga municipality after two  children died in hailstorms that hit the area and destroyed their house on Monday morning.

According to reports, the two children identified as eight-year-old, Anita Nakiyemba and her one-year-old brother, Timothy Kiyemba were buried by the house while their parents escaped with serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Iganga general hospital. 

The children's mother Harriet Nakayinza said on her sick bed at Iganga General Hospital, that they closed the door hoping to protect their children from hailstorm only for the house to collapse minutes later.

According to Ssayid Kakerewe the village chairperson, they could only save adults as the children could not contain the pressure of the falling walls, adding that  the house had developed deep cracks and wasn’t fit to shelter humans due to endlessly.

David Ndaula the Iganga Central Police Commander confirmed the incident and urged residents to desist from occupying dilapidated houses.
Meanwhile, David Balaba, the Mayor Iganga municipality visited the grieving family and revealed that such accidents are a result of poor planning.
