Police has shot and injured a suspected robber at St Joseph Secondary school. The thug is nursing the bullet wound at Villa Maria Hospital in Kalungu district.

According to Paul Kangave, the Southern Region Police spokesperson, the suspect is Paul Kayongo a resident of Kyamusooke Village in Kalungu Rural Sub County. He was shot by police as he and others still at large reportedly tried to gain entry into the girl’s dormitory in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Kangave says that the group stormed the school and turned off all the lights and ordered students to open the dormitory, prompting them to make an alarm that drew the attention of the matron prompting her to call police, which responded swiftly.

John Muwanga the head teacher says the attackers disguised as teachers calling students for morning preps, but students got suspicious since it was 2am, which was too early for preps and raised alarm.

While the other attackers managed to get away, Kayongo was shot in the leg and police arrested him.

Kangave says the suspect will help police investigations into the attack, and a manhunt has been launched for Kayongo’s accomplices that managed to get away when police arrived at the school.
