Two people have been kidnapped in Kanungu district barely three weeks after the kidnap of another person. Unknown gunmen kidnapped Ambrose Twinamatsiko, a Boda boda rider and Eldard Twinomujuni, both residents of Nyakagyezi village in Butogota town council.
The duo was allegedly kidnapped at Kyabuyorwa village in Butogota town council along Kanyantorogo-Butogota-Bwindi road around 1:40AM Tuesday morning.
According to a one Jabob Niwagaba, who was with the victims but managed to get away from the kidnappers, they were riding on a Bajaj boxer motorcycle registration number UEX355L from Butogota town when they were waylaid by the gunmen.
According to Niwagaba, the gunmen tied a rope across the road forcing Twinamatisko who was riding the motorcycle to reduce speed, before four men armed with a Sub Machine Gun-SMG, machete and a spear emerged from the bush with ropes and started tying them.
Niwagaba fled as the gunmen were busy struggling to tie them. The gunmen who were dressed in civilian attire were speaking Kiswahili and Rukiga.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the kidnappers dumped the victim’s motorcycle and crossed to the Democratic Republic of Congo. They also fired three bullets in the air after crossing to Democratic Republic of Congo.
The police spokesperson says their efforts to trace for the kidnap victims haven’t yielded results, but that they have registered a case of kidnap at Kanungu Police Station under CRB 504 /2019.
