Uganda police force has urged Ashburg Kato, a political activist affiliated to the people power pressure group, to immediately report to police and make an official statement over his disappearance and mysterious resurfacing.

In a statement released by Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, there has been a gruesome photo of a man being tortured that was associated to the disappearance of Kato. Many social media users shared this image purporting that it was that of the blogger in police custody.

However, Enanga says this is not true. Adding that the image is of a slave being tortured on Libya. He called upon members of the public to desist from sharing and spreading such propaganda against the police Force.

"We strongly condemn the circulation of the photo which was established to be an image of a black man tortures in an informal Libyan slave market where they were being sold at an average $400, as an online smear campaign, that is well  coordinated to put the reputation of police and sister security agencies in disrepute" Enanga wrote.

He added that; "we do encourage the victim who resurfaced yesterday together with relatives and friends to register a complaint, clearly indicating circumstances under which he initially disappeared and resurfaced for better leads to the investigating team."

In the statement, the police mouth piece asked that all politicians exercise maturity and stop such smear campaigns.
