The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has Monday morning met members of the Association of Performing Artists of Uganda at Parliament.

The group led by Mr. Andrew Benon Kibuuka, requested Kadaga to task the Gender Ministry to consult the Association before enacting regulations affecting Artistes.
During a meeting with perfuming artists, Rt.Hon. Kadaga asked government to organize and fund workshops for entertainers and empower their SACCO.

She also promised to arrange a meeting between the Association of perfoming Artists and Parliamentary Committee on Gender, so that their concerns are addressed during this period when Parliament is considering Budget Framework Papers from different Ministries.

The ministry of Gender recently released a list of regulations for what they termed as “Public Entertainment and State Plays Performing Artists, Event organizers and Promoters in Uganda-2018.

Some of the regulations include; registration of all performers, submission of work and documentation to the Uganda National Culture Forum for approval, and no artist will be allowed to perform after taking drugs.

Artists have since been up in arms against the rules claiming they are just meant to gag them.

Andrew Benon Kibuuka the chairperson of performing artists recently told his counterparts to remain calm as they involve government in the issue.

Other artists especially ladies say the dress code rule will not work for them as they have to dress up in some short attires to ease performance.
