Sadness has gripped football fans of Ssingo clan after three of their own were knocked dead in Mityana town. Acvording to eye witnesses, two other people sustained critical injuries in the same accident.
The accident happened on Sunday during a procession welcoming the Ssingo County Football Team which on Saturday won Buganda's Masaza Cup. Ssingo beat Buddu FC 12-11 in penalty shootouts at Mamboole stadium.
Khalid Kibirige, Joseph Kiviiri and another only identified as Lawrence, all mechanics in Mityana Municipality were travelling on a boda boda Reg.No. UEM 664Y when they bumped into a Fuso truck Reg.No.UAY 111Y that was moving in the opposite direction. Accoeding to residents, two of the deceased are brothers.
According to Alex Kasagga, one of the eyewitnesses, the youths were riding motorcycles at a high speed, interchanging between lanes in excitement, when they bumped into the Fuso and died on the spot.
The other two that sustained critical injuries attempted to slow down after the crash, but landed on to the guards. They are identified as Sam Bisenji and Caleb Nasasira. They are receiving treatment at Mityana hospital.
Police is currently searching for the Fuso truck driver who abandoned it in the middle of the road after the accident for fear of being lynched by the angry fans.
However, fun and celebrations did not end, but continued after the three bodies were removed from the scene.
