Schools both public and private will remain closed on Friday October 5th 2018 as Uganda celebrates the World Teachers Day 2018. 

The day, celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide is meant to mobilize support for teachers and ensure that the needs of future generations will be met by teachers. 
It also creates awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development in nation building.

In Uganda, the education ministry has in collaboration with UNATU organized national celebrations in fort portal. President Yoweri Museveni will be the chief guest.

However, districts have been encourage to hold own celebrations. Teachers from both public and private schools have been encouraged to join the celebrations.

According to lex Kakooza the Education Ministry PS, the president will be accompanied by the Minister of Education and sports, also First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni among other officials. 

“This serves to inform all DEOs/MFOs, parents, learners, other stakeholders and the general public, that teachers will be celebrating their day on Friday 5th October 2018 and therefore will not be at their schools. You are requested to accord them the necessary support” PS Kakooza writes.
